Landscape Development, Inc. knows great landscape construction is about more than installing plants, irrigation systems, and hardscape features. The most meaningful projects create spaces that positively impact the people who use them every day. That is why we are proud to partner with schools throughout California’s Central Valley, helping create outdoor environments that support education, exploration, and community engagement.
From campus improvements and playground enhancements to educational gardens and outdoor gathering spaces, our team understands the unique needs of school landscape construction. We work closely with general contractors, school districts, charter schools, and educational organizations to deliver safe, durable, and inspiring outdoor spaces that serve students for years to come.
The Value of Edible Schoolyard Gardens
One of our favorite types of school projects is the creation of edible schoolyard gardens. These innovative outdoor classrooms provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn about agriculture, nutrition, sustainability, science, and environmental stewardship.
Edible gardens transform underutilized areas into vibrant learning spaces where students can plant, grow, harvest, and experience fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs firsthand. These environments encourage curiosity, responsibility, and a stronger connection to the natural world while supporting educational curriculum across multiple grade levels.
For many students, these gardens provide their first experience growing food, helping them better understand where their meals come from and the importance of healthy eating habits.
Shafter Edible Schoolyard Project
We are especially proud of the recently completed Edible Schoolyard project in Shafter, California. This project reflects the power of collaboration and the positive impact thoughtful landscape construction can have on a school community.
Working alongside Colombo Construction Company and Grow Public Schools, our team helped bring this vision to life by creating an outdoor space designed to inspire learning and engagement. The finished garden provides students with an interactive environment where education extends beyond the classroom walls.
Projects like this remind us why we love what we do. Seeing students gain access to outdoor learning opportunities and educational resources makes every effort worthwhile.
