Why is Mulching Important?
With the recent rains replenishing the earth, our trees are rejoicing! Spring is the perfect time to refresh mulch and prepare for the summer heat. A 3-5” layer of mulch should be applied, but it’s essential to keep it at least 3-6” away from the trunk to prevent fungal issues.
For young and newly planted trees, mulch should extend at least 3 feet in all directions, while established trees benefit from 6-10 feet of coverage. Mulching helps retain moisture, protect soil from temperature fluctuations, and suppress weed growth, keeping your landscape healthy and resilient.
Trimming Trees in Spring
If your tree maintenance was postponed over the winter, now is the time to catch up on pruning and thinning. Removing dead or diseased branches allows trees to channel their energy into healthy new growth. Proper tree maintenance ensures a stronger, more vibrant canopy throughout the season.
