Spring is a season of renewal, growth, and fresh energy in the landscape. As trees begin to awaken from winter dormancy, it is the perfect time to check in on the health of your landscape and prepare for the warmer months ahead. Enhanced Arbor Management’s team is always here to help ensure your trees and landscapes remain healthy, resilient, and thriving throughout the year.
Featured Tree: Forest Pansy Redbud
Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’
One of the most beautiful signs that spring has arrived is the blooming Forest Pansy Redbud. This deciduous tree thrives in full sun and grows at a moderate rate, reaching approximately 20 feet tall and 25 feet wide. Early in the season, it produces stunning rosy-pink flowers along its bare branches, creating a striking display before the leaves appear.
After flowering, the tree flushes with brilliant scarlet-purple, heart-shaped leaves that hold their color longer than many western redbuds. As summer heat approaches, the foliage gradually transitions to green, then develops beautiful shades of yellow and orange in the fall before dropping its leaves for winter dormancy. The Forest Pansy Redbud is not only visually striking, but it also attracts butterflies and pollinators and provides benefits to local bird populations.
This tree is considered drought tolerant once established and should be watered when the top three inches of soil become dry.
Trim Before the Heat
If winter pruning was missed, early spring is the ideal time to inspect trees for any damage and complete necessary trimming before temperatures rise. Removing dead, damaged, or diseased branches helps trees direct their energy toward healthy growth while improving structure and safety. Proper seasonal pruning supports long-term tree vitality and prepares trees to handle the stress of warmer weather.
Mulching and Preparing for Warmer Weather
Spring is also a great time to refresh mulch around trees and planting areas. Apply a 3–5 inch layer of mulch, keeping it 3–6 inches away from the trunk to prevent moisture buildup and fungal issues. Proper mulching plays an important role in maintaining healthy landscapes by conserving soil moisture, regulating soil temperature, and suppressing weeds.
Spring Plant Healthcare
Spring growth also brings increased activity from pests and diseases. Whether your landscape requires fertilization, pest management, or overall plant health care, the team at Enhanced Arbor Management is here to help ensure your trees remain strong and vibrant throughout the season.
As always, our goal is to provide the knowledge, care, and proactive service that brings our clients Peace of Mind all year long.
